When Aphex Twin released a pac-man remix dance album
In 1992 Richard D. James (aka Aphex Twin) released an EP under the name Power-Pill which included techno remixs of the famous songs from the video game Pac-Man. The EP had four remixes:
Track A1: Pac-Man (Power-Pill Mix)
Track A2: Pac-Man (Ghost Mix)
Track AA1: Pac-Man (Choci's Hi-Score Mix)
Track AA2: Pac-Man (Mickey Finn's Yum Yum Mix)
Rumor has it, that Rich got access to the actual Namco computer boards to draw the Pac-Man audio from (no sampling needed). This resulted in super-crisp playback at the club, and people were allegedly amazed at the sound quality.
This would also imply that Aphex Twin was literally the precursor to chip-tune music. Though it was more of a novelty release, the Power-Pill EP is a quirky part of Aphex Twin's early discography.
